5th Fall Chess Challenge Draws 90 competitors

More than ninety students recently gathered at the Hexter Chess Center for Usdan's fifth annual Chess Challenge. Open to students in grades K-12, the tournament was U.S. Chess Federation-rated. It was directed by Usdan chess instructors Joel Salman and Brian Karen. Joel is a FIDE Master, and a U.S. Chess Federation Master. He is also a member of the U.S. Chess Federation Scholastic Council. Brian is ranked within the top 3% of tournament chess players worldwide, and he has been teaching at Usdan since 1997. The tournament had three sections: High School, Elementary, and Primary. Following a day of intense competition, trophies were awarded to the top five in each section.
