The opening “FIRST CLASS", the inaugural exhibit of Usdan's Portfolio Preparation class, launched with a reception at the Lobby Gallery of 430 Park Avenue (56th Street) in Manhattan. The exhibit will be on view in this gallery until March 7. At that time it will move to the Atrium at LIU's Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, where it will run until March 22. Usdan's Portfolio Preparation program launched in 2011. It combines rigorous development of technique, together with the exploration of art history, and the result is a stronger portfolio as students prepare for college and beyond. FIRST CLASS presents several pieces from each student. The exhibit includes Life Drawing, Still Life, Self-Portrait, Landscape, Photography, and Sculpture.
Usdan's new program is lead by Derek Mainhart, a member of Usdan's faculty for seven years, and an instructor at Hofstra, Molloy, and Boricua colleges. Andrew Copper, Usdan's Assistant Director, guides the new program together with Rochelle Morgan, Chair of Usdan's Visual Arts Department.
Students exhibiting artwork in FIRST CLASS are: Jessica Boyd from Shreiber High School, Manhasset; Jessica Curry from Deer Park High School; Denise Losee, Mepham High School, North Merrick; Emily Rabinowitz from Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School; Nicole Wildstein and Julie Zeitoun from Jericho High School.
